Manny Diaz's impact on Penn State's defense during the regular season was nothing short of remarkable. Under his guidance, the Nittany Lions boasted one of the top-ranked defense in the country, holding opponents to an average of just 223.3 yards per game. Notably, his defensive strategy was a key factor in Penn State finishing third in scoring defense, allowing a mere 11.4 points on average. The Nittany Lions' defensive prowess played a crucial role in their impressive regular-season performance, with only two defeats against formidable Big Ten opponents such as Ohio State and Michigan. Diaz inherits a Duke program that has shown promise the last two years. Duke went 9-4 in 2022 and started the season 5-1 before injuries started to affect the season. He will now be tasked with continuing what Elko started the last two seasons. The Blue Devils did lose a lot of players during the offseason through the transfer portal and Diaz will need to recoupe those losses by recruting well. He will also need to get some players from the transfer portal as well.
